D&D: 1974 to 2024 and counting
While it is still 2024 (only just!), I wanted to acknowledge Dungeons & Dragons and its 50 year anniversary.
One incredible fact about D&D is that its original version from 1974, designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, is still being read and played. Copies of the original box set are very rare and very expensive, but a pdf version of the game is readily available on DriveThruRPG (link).
Indeed, the many wonderful bloggers on old school D&D were the main source of inspiration for starting this blog, so it is fitting to take up their blogging call to arms this year.
D&D is one of what I call the Trifecta of D&D, Warhammer and Magic the Gathering. The Trifecta are the titans of fantastic gaming, being some of the oldest and most popular games out there. D&D is the oldest of the three and helped pave the way for the other two, as well as countless other games and creations.
Speaking of threes, I am working on a post about the three things that have impressed me the most about D&D. Something to look forward to early next year. See you in 2025!
In the meantime, thank you to Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson for their incredible creation from 50 years ago!
